Financial reporting - primary statements - bookkeeping.

The accounting equation follows from the double-entry principle of bookkeeping.


It is usually expressed as:

Assets - Liabilities = Equity


Alternative presentations of the accounting equation include:

Assets = Liabilities + Shareholders' Funds; OR
Assets = Liabilities + Equity
